Abstract Hydropower plants (HPPs) are acknowledged to be fundamental assets provide generation flexibility power systems hosting substantial amount of stochastic renewable energy sources. Numerical Investigations on the Transient Performance of a Centrifugal Pump
Centrifugal pumps are an integral part of plants used in process industries. The flow structure within a centrifugal pump is very complex due to the interaction between the rotating impeller and the geometric features around it. In the present study, numerical investigations on a centrifugal pump have been carried out using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based solver. This study employs f...

متن کاملExperimental Study and Three-Dimensional Numerical Flow Simulation in a Centrifugal Pump when Handling Viscous Fluids
In this paper the centrifugal pump performances are tested when handling water and viscous oils as Newtonian fluids. Also, this paper shows a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional fluid flow inside a centrifugal pump. For these numerical simulations the SIMPLEC algorithm is used for solving governing equations of incompressible viscous/turbulent flows through the pump. The k-ε turbulenc...
متن کاملNumerical and Economic Study of Performance of Centrifugal Pump as Turbine
In this paper, performance of centrifugal pump as turbine (PAT) is investigated numerically. Three different specific speeds are considered and three pumps are designed using diagrams from catalogues and CFturbo V.9 software. Next, models are analyzed by Ansys CFX 16 software and results are compared with those of CFturbo software. Also, a mesh study analysis for one case is performed in order ...
متن کاملNumerical Study of the tongue geometry effects on the cavitation and performance of a centrifugal pump in off-design conditions
In this study, the effects of the volute tongue geometry variation on the head, efficiency, velocity distribution and cavitation structure of a centrifugal pump in the steady flow behavior under off-design conditions have been investigated. Numerical simulation modeling based on the turbulence model with a hybrid grid is used to simulate the flow within the modeled pump. The flow is simulated ...
